Chinese Investors Show Strong Interest in Canadian Agriculture and Agri-food Industry

Reported by Victoria Italiano

Beijing, April 28, 2011 -- Chinese investors and businesses were given the opportunity to gain insight into the Canadian Agricultural industry during the 5th Chinese Enterprises Outbound Investment Conference that took place on April 27,28 in Beijing. This event is a two-day conference for Chinese investors seeking out potential business ventures in international markets with opportunity for Canadian businesses to showcase investment opportunities through promotion of Canadian agri-food in hopes of Chinese investment attraction. Youming Zhao, President of Canada-China Agricultural Food Development Exchange Center and Jack Huitema, Coldwell Banker, K. Miller Realty Brokerage, both took part in this opportunity to assist China in their “Go Global” strategy. The main objective was to promote Canadian agriculture and agri-foods to potential Chinese investors in order to identify exactly what the Canadian Agricultural sector has to offer. Other objectives of this conference were to create internal networking sessions with fellow mission participants and obtain valuable advice from the Canadian Embassy, Canadian Trade officers, and Canadian business representatives in China.

During this two day conference, some of Canada’s best agri-food was showcased through samples to indicate to the Chinese investors that Canadian products have high potential to successfully serve the Chinese market and their agricultural prospects. Business objectives were achieved through showing the Chinese investors what the Canadian multicultural market has in store for China, and the impact that has on the growing opportunities in agri-food for Chinese investors. During this venture, it was made known to the Canada China Business Council and Chinese investors, that more than half of the agricultural market that attracts Chinese investors’ projects in Canada can be directly attributed to the Canada-China Agricultural Food Development Exchange Center

As a result of this venture, and the promotion of Canadian Agriculture, the Canada-China Agriculture and Food Development Exchange Center received an extensive amount of positive feedback and high recommendation from the Chinese Government, and Sarah Kutulakos, the Canadian China business council Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. With this positive feedback came many Chinese business investors, who are actively interested in the opportunities that the Canadian Agricultural sector has to offer the Chinese community. Several important investors focused on the agri-food market have arraigned ventures to Canada in the coming months to discuss potential business opportunities with the Canada-China Agriculture and Food Development Exchange Center.
